Waihōpai House

Invercargill, Southland

Set within a semi-rural site on the outskirts of Invercargill, Waihōpai House was designed for a young family seeking a home that feels modern yet rustic and welcoming. A series of gable pavilions branch off a central spine, creating a clear separation of spaces while opening almost every room to the northern aspect and rural views. Large glazed gables, high-pitched ceilings, and warm timber finishes bring light and character, while concrete floors provide thermal mass for comfort and efficiency year-round. Clad in a balance of lightweight concrete and cedar, the home combines durability with texture, creating an inviting retreat that feels both contemporary and timeless.
