Ōtātara Pavillion
Invercargill, Southland
Located in a semi-rural setting on the outskirts of Invercargill, this Ōtātara house was designed for a young family to embrace natural light, views, and the lifestyle of its surroundings. A central spine with branching pavilions creates a balance of public and private spaces, while fully glazed gables and high ceilings draw in northern sun and rural outlooks. Clad in warm cedar with recesses in dark-stained ply and anchored by locally sourced stone, the home feels both contemporary and connected to its place. Careful orientation shelters living areas from prevailing winds, while outdoor spaces, including a fire pit, extend the home’s usability year-round.
