Located on the south peninsula of Lake Wakatipu, the Kingston Hut was designed as a modern take on the traditional Southland crib. Timber and steel cladding ground the home in its alpine setting, while gable forms and a steep roof pitch nod to the local vernacular. Inside, flexible spaces accommodate both family life and gatherings of friends, with lofted volumes, full-height glazing, and a west-facing window seat capturing light, views, and a sense of retreat. Sustainable materials and a sensitive response to the site ensure the hut feels both protective and connected, an inviting place of shelter that embraces its remarkable surroundings.
